With the support of more than 600 volunteers, the Orpheum and Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education affect the lives of almost 300,000 Mid-South patrons each year through the Broadway series and a diverse array of concerts, comedians, and other events. In addition, our community and education programs help more than 50,000 students, teachers, and families in the tri-state area connect with theatre and the arts.
The Orpheum Theatre Group, a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) performing arts center, relies on philanthropic support in order to sustain its education programs, diverse programming, community vitality, and preservation.
    MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Orpheum Theatre Group is to improve the communities we serve by using the performing arts to entertain, educate and enlighten while preserving the historic Orpheum Theatre and the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts and Education.
    Broadway Series & Concerts
The Orpheum has been the Mid-South home of touring Broadway productions since 1977. In addition to the Broadway Series, the theatre also hosts performances by Ballet Memphis, various concerts, and local cultural and community events such as Memphis in May and the International Blues Challenge. These performances bring hundreds of thousands of patrons downtown each year and are an integral component of the continued revitalization of downtown Memphis.
    Theatre Preservation
Since it first opened in 1928, the Orpheum has dazzled patrons with its artisan millwork, gilding, original fixtures, a Mighty Wurlitzer organ, and architectural beauty. Under the leadership of the then-Memphis Development Foundation, the Orpheum was one of the first buildings in Memphis placed on the National Register of Historic Places. With annual maintenance expenses of over $650,000, in the last 35 years the Orpheum has undergone more than $15 million in renovation and enhancements that have made it a world-class performing arts facility while preserving the historical and architectural integrity of the vaudeville palace. Recent improvements include reordering the first several rows of the orchestra section to allow for additional legroom and re-cushioning and reupholstering all orchestra level seats. A major restoration project restoring and repairing paint and gold leaf in the historic Orpheum auditorium wrapped up in August 2016.
    Community & Education Programs
The Orpheum and Halloran Centre rely on partnerships with corporations and individuals in the community to make the theatre more accessible to Mid-Southerners, including populations with low to moderate incomes. These arts and core curriculum-based programs make high-quality arts programming accessible to all members of the community regardless of their ability to pay. Designed to be representative of our community’s demographics and develop future audiences, these programs use theatre and literary arts to develop basic learning skills, discipline, self-esteem, and to cultivate the whole person by developing intuition, reasoning, and imagination. Programs include Broadway Workshops, Family Series, Field Trips, the High School Musical Theatre Awards and much more.
    Continued Growth
The new state-of-the-art Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education has introduced a new downtown space for performances, events, education, and outreach. Totaling over 39,000 square feet, the new centre provides ample space for the Orpheum's own community programs as well as additional opportunities to interact with more Mid-Southerners. With a reception hall, lounge, classroom, and dance studio, plus first-class catering facilities and audio/video support, the Halloran Centre also provides a distinctive downtown location for parties, weddings, and community-led programs.
In May of 2016, the Memphis Development Foundation undertook a self-evaluation process, reimagining its vision, mission statement, and name. In May of 2016, the group adopted its new identity and became the Orpheum Theatre Group.
