Elephant Revival

November 9, 2017 | Tower Theatre – Philadelphia, PA

Review + photos by Tom Callan

OK, to be totally honest, most of the reason I went to this show was because I was invited by a hope-to-be girlfriend (most of us know how that goes…). But after watching, listening to and shooting the band, I can say any skepticism is now gone. Expecting a full blown folk band, I was pleasantly surprised to hear a nice blend of folk, rock and Indie.

The band’s first, self-titled release was in 2008 and there have been 5 since including “Petals” in 2016. The lead singer, Bonnie Paine plays a washboard among other instruments like Djembe, percussion and a musical saw. The rest of the band is a group of talented musicians who all play multiple instruments, and consists of; Daniel Rodriguez (vocals and guitar among other instruments), Bridget Law (vocals, fiddle), Charlie Rose (Banjo, pedal steel guitar and horns among other instruments), Dango Rose (electric double bass and other instruments) and percussionist Darren Garvey. Hailing from Colorado, this eclectic mix of talents and musical styles come across as very well rounded and, although ‘easy on the ears’, at the same time rockin’… On a side note, Bridget published a statement on the band’s website that she will no longer be performing full time with the band to pursue other interests, no official word from the band as to what the end result will be.

The band is also highly committed to supporting causes for our planet and its preservation.

Well worth giving a listen to and seeing live!
