Oregon State Offers Complimentary Seats to Season Ticket Holders

In an attempt to fill seats to Oregon State football games this season, the athletics department is handing out free single-game tickets to its season ticket holders.

Earlier this week, season ticket holders received an email noting that they would receive complimentary tickets to Oregon State’s final four home games with no additional cost. The complimentary tickets can be used for OSU’s games against Stanford on September 28, Utah on October 12, Washington on November 8, or Arizona State on November 16.

OSU’s Athletic Director, Zack Lassiter, told Oregon Live that this offer stemmed from low ticket sales. This year, the university sold about 14,000 season tickets, which is about a thousand fewer than 2018. During the first two games, there were thousands of empty seats in Reser Stadium.

“We definitely want to create an environment that has as many people in the stands as we can,” Lassiter said. “We have a better football program than we’ve had in the past.”

In addition to filling seats, Lassiter hopes that the complimentary tickets will give season ticket holders a little something extra for their support. He noted that while there are discounted seats available during the year, season ticket holders are left wanting something more. While fans want to see the stadium packed, he said “they want to feel appreciated for what they’re doing.”

Season ticket holders can claim the free tickets any time before the final home game.

OSU isn’t the only school taking advantage of complimentary tickets; earlier this month, UCLA offered free tickets to season ticket holders after they kicked-off their season with two losses. The university said that “while the result was not what we hoped it would be, we want to acknowledge you for making it to the game and supporting the Bruins on such a hot day.”

Oregon State will take on Stanford tomorrow, followed by games against UCLA, Utah, California, and Arizona in October.
