The Who were eight songs through their set at Houston’s Toyota Center last night when they had to postpone the gig.

Frontman Roger Daltrey lost his voice in the middle of the set and told the audience “I think I should quit while I am ahead.” While the band tried to take a short break, guitarist Pete Townshend ended up coming back on stage to relay the postponement to the audience.

“I am really, really sorry,” he told the crowd. “Roger cannot actually speak now.”

Townshend went on to tell the crowd that Daltrey had been sseeing a vocal surgeon during the tour. However, since he could no longer continue singing, the band had to call-off the rest of the show. He promised the crowd that the group would come back and play again in Houston, telling fans to hold on to their tickets, as they will be honored during the new show date.

While fans were upset that the show had to end early, most offered supportive words online, wishing Daltrey the best as he recovers.

We were there … Loved what you all gave us.

Get well soon, Roger! Was at the show tonight, and you were totally rocking until your voice started giving out on Who Are You? We totally understand about your voice and allergy issues, and the true Who faithful will be here in force when you return!

The Who are currently performing on their “Moving On” symphonic tour, which is hitting dates across the U.S. and Canada to support their new LP. They’re set to play next tomorrow, September 27 in Dallas, however, it is unknown if Daltrey’s voice has recovered at this time. Next month, they’ll play in Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, and Vancouver before wrapping-up in Edmonton.
