St. Louis is welcoming professional football back to the city with open arms. According to officials, some 28,000 fans are expected to fill the seats at the Dome at America’s Center when the St. Louis BattleHawks make their anticipated XFL home debut.

The domed stadium can accommodate nearly 67,000 spectators. However, upper level seating will not be opened for BattleHawks games, meaning the 27,000+ tickets already sold for their February 23 bout against the New York Guardians will make it a sold out venture. The stadium last hosted a professional football game back in 2015 when the Rams called St. Louis home before relocating to Los Angeles.

“I’m expecting The Dome to be rocking,” BattleHawks offensive tackle Matt McCants said in a statement. “We just have to do our job and put a good product on the field. St. Louis has been hungry for football. It’s back now.”

Since the revamped XFL launched two weeks ago, markets across the country have embraced the Vince McMahon-run league. The D.C. Defenders inundated the secondary market for their Week 1 battle at home, which garnered substantially higher ticket prices than some Washington Redskins games just weeks earlier. The XFL’s appeal has also been strong in Seattle, where demand for Dragons tickets forced CenturyLink Stadium to open up more seating sections.

The St. Louis BattleHawks split their first two road decisions this inaugural season. They topped the Dallas Renegades 15-9 in Week 1 and left the Lone Star State with a loss at the hands of the Houston Roughnecks last weekend.
